In response to a local housing crisis shortage for affordable housing, Catholic Charities is leasing 28 studio and two one-bedroom apartments from Eureka Apartments in Prescott.  These units will be available to low-income individuals experiencing homelessness with a preference for serving veterans in the Prescott community.

Furnishings Needed for Veterans

As the leasing begins on April 1, 2017, Catholic Charities is looking for local businesses, churches and other organizations to help provide furnishings for these apartments. “The individuals we help are coming to these homes with nothing,” said Len DeJoria, Catholic Charities staff. “They need all the support we can give them, so we’re looking for any sort of assistance, from donations to gift cards or monetary gifts, so they move into a furnished apartment that feels like home.”

The Prescott Valley and Flagstaff area housing shortage has made it increasing difficult to find affordable housing for veterans and other individuals experiencing homelessness. Through this partnership with Steve Strombeck, owner of Strombeck Properties, these newly renovated apartments will provide a safe, affordable community to veterans and other low-income individuals.

Adopt an Apartment

“We are encouraging people to Adopt an Apartment, which means for $500, they can provide a bed, linens, pots and pans, kitchen appliances so individuals have a move-in ready apartment,” said DeJoria. “People will also be able to use this donation as a 2016 tax credit if given before April 18, 2017, as any gift to Catholic Charities qualifies as a Foster Care Charitable Giving tax credit.”

However, if giving items is more your speed, Catholic Charities will accept gently used or new:

  • Furniture (dresser, recliner chairs, small kitchen tables, end tables, lamps)
  • Coffee pots, toasters
  • Pots, pans, dishes, utensils, cups, mugs
  • Towels/wash cloths
  • Sheets (full or twin)
  • Rugs
  • Trash cans
  • Cleaning supplies (including mops, brooms, vacuums)
