Handmade Hats Are a Heartfelt Reminder to MANA House Veterans

Written by

For veterans and others experiencing homelessness, clothing and accessories are not only protection against the elements, but a way to preserve dignity. Something as simple as a new scarf, pair of gloves, or hat can increase people’s confidence and encourage them to keep going in a difficult situation.

MANA House

MANA (Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force) House in Phoenix, Ariz. provides transitional housing and case management for veterans experiencing homelessness and connects them to resources for employment, benefits, transportation and more. Last year, the program received a cherished donation of handmade hats for the veterans. This year, MANA House was blessed yet again.

Warming Heads and Hearts

Those at MANA House were touched to receive such thoughtful gifts.

Lisa’s love of knitting started about 10 years ago when she learned how to loom knit with a church group that was donating hats. Her reason for donating to MANA House this year comes straight from the heart.

“My sister, brother-in-law, and dad served our country. I moved here to spend time with my dad and help my mom before he passed, but his birthday is on Veterans Day. I think it’s an appropriate way to celebrate,” Lisa says.

Veterans Deserve Compassion

The sheer amount of time and effort Lisa put into the project is astonishing. She had been knitting since the end of August, committed to bringing a smile to veterans’ faces.

Lisa’s hats will remind veterans they’re loved and that their sacrifices are deeply appreciated. “These hats will keep our veterans warm this winter season. They appreciate handmade gifts knowing that they are made with love and care,” said Greg Shain, a MANA House resident.

If you’re interested in supporting MANA House and helping veterans find stability, you can help! Donating needed items from our Amazon Charity List or volunteering with us are great ways to start.
