Prescott Loan Closet Improves Access to Medical Equipment

Written by

For those who are recovering from a recent injury or surgery, the cost of medical supplies can pose a major financial burden. Having to locate and pay for needed equipment can add stress to an already difficult situation.
Medical equipment like wheelchairs and walkers can be extremely expensive to rent. Also, programs like Medicare and Medicaid often do not cover these items.

Medical Loan Closet Eases the Burden

Thankfully, Catholic Charities’ Medical Loan Closet can help. The Medical Loan Closet has been loaning out items such as crutches, walkers and raised toilet seats to Prescott and Chino Valley residents since the 1980s.

Medical supplies through the Loan Closet are available to people of all ages. The cost is a $5 donation for canes, $50 donation for knee scooters and $20 for most other equipment, but no one is turned away.

“While the Loan Closet usually asks for a small donation on the loan of equipment, we work with those who cannot even manage this. The Loan Closet fits well into our mission statement of ‘Helping our community’s most vulnerable with solutions that permanently improve lives,’” said Parker Anderson, a staff member who assists Loan Closet clients.

Peace of Mind After Injury or Surgery

The Medical Loan Closet’s services were a blessing to Brooklyn, who suffered an injury that required the use of crutches. Unfortunately, her school’s large campus made it difficult for her to get around.

Luckily, Brooklyn and her mother were able to borrow a knee scooter from the Loan Closet. Brooklyn no longer had to worry about getting to class on time or finding a way to carry her backpack. Now that she had a faster, easier way to get around, she could fully focus on her recovery.

“It would have been hard for us to justify purchasing a scooter. The minimal donation was much more logical, and the scooter is greatly appreciated,” said Brooklyn’s mother.

If you’re in the Quad-Cities Area and in need of medical supplies, contact the Medical Loan Closet at 928-778-2531 to schedule an appointment. Individuals in the Cottonwood area can contact the Cottonwood Loan Closet at 928-634-4254 to check availability and schedule an appointment.
