EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOINS BOARD OF REGIONAL HEAD START ASSOCIATION

PHOENIX, Ariz. (April 30, 2018) – Larry Campbell has been part of the Catholic Charities team as Executive Director of Westside Head Start for six years. On May 10th, Campbell will become a member of the Board of Directors for the Region 9 Head Start Association – a role that will allow Campbell to be a thought leader and make positive changes for early education in Arizona.

“This role of dialogue, idea sharing, collaboration and networking is essential to keep the association tilted in the direction of relevance and away from redundancy. I’m excited to serve and work toward the vision of helping all children, regardless of their circumstance at birth, live a full and prosperous life,” says Campbell.

Campbell has more than 30 years of social and human services experience with government entities as well as non-profit, faith based agencies. He has 11 years experience in Head Start as he started with Maricopa County Head Start and then came to Catholic Charities Community Services in 2012.

Campbell was selected into a very prestigious Head Start Fellows Program in June of 2017 and successfully completed a rigorous two-week program at UCLA. He was selected by his peers as the valedictorian/spokesman of that Fellows program. Campbell returned from that program with an aggressive, multi-year strategic plan, which is currently under way. This plan calls for West Side Head Start to begin offering longer program days in order to assist families to find employment and/or get into job training programs.

Catholic Charities Westside Head Start provides comprehensive early childhood education through a holistic approach by working with the whole family. The programs emphasize pre-reading, language, math, cognitive skills, health, and social and emotional competence to prepare disadvantaged children for school and to maximize their potential for a bright future.
